His Dark Materials - Film One . . .

Philip Pullman's wonderful trilogy of books – His Dark Materials – kicks off in the cinemas across the pond this month (they say) and us Brits will have to wait till December to watch the Armoured Bears and Daemons come to life on screen.

Rumour has it that the entire Magesterium / anti-Christian sub-plot which runs through each book has been stripped out due to Hollywood and it's men-of-power who fear the wrath of the big, bearded man in the sky. Hmmm, all the more reason to read the books I say, either before or after watching the films will do. How the third film, The Amber Spyglass, will make sense without these views baffles me. I'd explain more but it would ruin a large chunk of the story for those who haven't read it, yet.

In the meantime Apple are kindly offering HD trailers (cheers Mr. Jobs & New Line Cinema for the image, the CG graphics look excellent in places) and the film also has an official website where, after a short questionaire about your personal thoughts & choices, you can discover what form your own Daemon would take; say hello to Haythia.

Roll over the image below, click "Is my Daemon a match?" & let me know if you think the crow is the animal representative to my personality. You have twelve days before the form becomes fixed . . .
