Nestled quietly behind the La Victoria Hotel on the Cap Del Pinar in the North Eastern corner of Mallorca is the little known Mirador Restaurant.
The Cap Del Pinar is far away from the standard tourism buzz found elsewhere. After a relaxing drive up the winding mountain road to the hotel car park the foot passage to the front door is no less beautiful. We were seated right next to the edge of the cliff, overlooking the Bay de Pollença to the Cap de Formentor, after arriving shortly before sunset. This has to be one of the most magnificent views I've ever seen whilst sitting down to eat.
Not to be outdone by the scenery, the dishes delivered to the table were amazing. Mostly Mallorcan rustica in style with a generous amount of menu real estate dedicated to fish caught locally. Best of the starters: roasted red peppers filled with crab meat, plush tucker. I opted for the swordfish for mains, a multi-flavorous steak of challenging proportions on an even more impressive plate. Having sampled other guests' Calamari and Lamb courses I have put this eating etablishment into my 'order anything dude, it'll be good' category. So good, that it reminded me immediately of the infamous Hotel Eden restaurant in Chamonix.
No Mediterranean meal would be authentic without the family of ferrel - though even-tempered - cats climbing the grassy hill and waiting in vain for rich pickings. Not a chance mate, my swordfish...
