Having drunk numerous nights away in Soho's Garlic & Shots and The Crowbar I'm stoked to have recently been introduced to Project Orange, another rock bar who's iTunes playlist includes Queens Of The Stone Age, Supergrass (tracks from I Should Coco - awesome!) and Fu Manchu. Only this bar isn't miles away in the middle of London. Rock has come home to the South, a decent stone's throw from Clapham Junction station to be exact.
Last night was a Halloween party featuring four live bands in the basement. Only one of those bands is worth a mention, Pistols At Dawn, a trio who turned up in full skeletal costume and proceeded to rock hard. They had given some sampler CDs out earlier in the evening, track two listed as Bow Down.
This band have great stage presence (ok, the costumes helped but that mask was wicked), a great lead vocalist (fully melodic like Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age), great basslines (think Timmy C. from Rage Against The Machine), great songs (some nice chord changes that reminded me of Alice In Chains and strong poetry throughout - check the band's biography for an example), great musical skill (during Bow Down the guitarist's amp blew, rhythm section jammed - really, really well - for ten minutes until the stage hands got the rig back online), surely this band are destined for a great future.
This was stadium filling material and we saw it up close. Grab some free MP3s from their website or MySpace page
